Petrobras has recently signed production sharing contracts (PSC) for eight exploratory blocks off the coast of Ivory Coast. These contracts, signed on September 17 in Abidjan, allow Petrobras to manage these blocks with a 90 percent share, while the remaining 10 percent belongs to the state-owned PETROCI Holding of Ivory Coast.

Details of the Blocks and Geographic Location

The signed contracts include blocks CI-513, CI-600, CI-601, CI-602, CI-603, CI-605, CI-701, and CI-702. These blocks are located in an area with high exploratory potential, featuring geological characteristics similar to Petrobras's sedimentary basins. This move enables Petrobras to assess the potential of these regions by leveraging its exploratory experiences and technical capabilities.

Petrobras Development Strategy

Magda Chambriard, President of Petrobras, stated at the contract signing ceremony that the company plans to renew its oil and gas reserves by expanding its exploratory activities in Brazil and internationally. She added, "With this acquisition, Petrobras gains a significant presence in Ivory Coast, a country with high exploratory potential."

Petrobras is also looking to diversify its portfolio of exploratory investments and create international opportunities. These steps align with the company's overall strategy to enhance production capacities and optimize oil and gas resources globally.

However, Petrobras has not disclosed details regarding exploratory costs, drilling commitments, or timelines for these eight blocks. This lack of transparency may raise concerns for investors and oil and gas market analysts, prompting a need for further monitoring by stakeholders.
