New Times Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. has decided to collaborate with TMC Compressors to supply the marine compressed air system for eight large container ships that this Chinese shipyard is constructing for A.P. Moller – Maersk.
Contract Details
Under this contract, each of the eight container ships, with a capacity of 18,600 TEU, will be equipped with a complete marine compressed air system from TMC, which includes compressors for control air and service air on board. These vessels are designed to be 366 meters long and 58.6 meters wide, making them significantly more compact than the current maximum length of 400-meter container ships.
Performance and Technical Benefits
All eight vessels will feature dual-fuel engines capable of operating on conventional fuels and liquefied gas. This feature allows the ships to progress towards improved energy efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Hans-Petter Tanum, Sales and Business Development Director at TMC, emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in transitioning the maritime industry towards low-emission transportation, stating, “We are committed to supporting this trend through energy-efficient compressors.”
TMC, as a compressor design company, specifically operates for marine and offshore applications, with its headquarters located in Oslo, Norway. With over two decades of experience in the maritime industry, the company will continue to provide compressed air solutions for significant vessels like these eight container ships.
The container ships, set to be operational in 2029 and 2030, will not only lead in dimensions but also in technology within the maritime industry. With their advanced capabilities, these vessels can serve as prime examples of positive changes in the maritime transport sector.
