National Iranian Oil Company is preparing to begin early gas production from the Pazan field after discovering new gas reserves. The discovery of new reserves was announced on October 6, 2025, following the completion of drilling the second exploratory well in the field.
Details of the Pazan Field
The Pazan field is located in the south of Fars Province, approximately 21 kilometers from the city of Jam. The area of this field is about 22 square kilometers, and its proximity to the South Pars region allows for the utilization of existing infrastructure in the area. Studies indicate that the total in-place gas volume of this field is estimated to be around 29 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), of which about 19 trillion cubic feet is recoverable.

Status of the Takht Field
The Takht gas field has also been discovered in the south of Fars Province, containing approximately 7.5 trillion cubic feet of in-place gas and 5.5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas. The depth of the first well in this field reaches 4,903 meters, and studies indicate that gas reserves also exist in deeper layers. Drilling a second well is planned to evaluate these layers. The intrinsic value of the Takht reservoir, considering gas and gas condensates, is estimated at around $40 billion.
The exploration manager of the National Iranian Oil Company, Mohi al-Din Jafari, announced that drilling another well is essential for the development of the Pazan field to more accurately assess the identified oil volume, estimated at around 200 million barrels.
Commencement of Executive Operations
Sara Ghorbani, the project manager for the development of the Gordan and Pazan fields, announced the start of executive operations for the development of the Pazan field, stating that the conceptual and basic design studies for this field are nearly complete. If ideal conditions are met, gas production from the Pazan field will be realized two years after the contract is ratified. The development of this field will be carried out in phases, and the start of gas production is not intended to be postponed until all development phases are completed.
The National Iranian Oil Company emphasizes that new discoveries in the Pazan and Takht fields are a support for the country's energy future, and energy consumption management in various sectors remains essential.
