Nasrollah Pejmanfar, the head of the Article 90 Commission of the Parliament, in recent meetings of this commission, examined the status of gas imbalance and emphasized that securing gas in the upcoming winter is one of the country's fundamental challenges. Estimates indicate that during peak consumption days, we may face a shortfall in gas supply. In this regard, reducing consumption and preventing gas wastage should be pursued seriously as immediate solutions to get through the winter.

The Necessity of Reducing Gas Consumption

Pejmanfar added that household consumption during the cold months accounts for a significant portion of the country's gas, and there is considerable capacity for reducing consumption in this sector. He also pointed out that the issue should not be solely reduced to people's behavior or the high consumption of households. Part of the high consumption is due to inefficient buildings, outdated boiler rooms, unsuitable heating equipment, and low efficiency.

Investment for Energy Consumption Optimization

The head of the Article 90 Commission of the Parliament emphasized the need for investment in energy consumption optimization and stated that equipment needs to be upgraded, boiler rooms need to be improved, and buildings need to be more efficient. In this path, utilizing the capacity of the private sector is also of special importance. One of the most important mechanisms designed for the entry of the private sector into the consumption reduction area is gas service companies.

Pejmanfar explained that in this model, the private sector brings its resources and executive capabilities into optimization projects and creates consumption reductions, and in return, benefits from the achieved savings. Thus, part of the required investment for optimizing consumption can be provided through the private sector.

The Importance of Reducing Gas Wastage

He stated: "The more we can reduce unnecessary consumption and gas wastage before winter, the less pressure will be placed on the network and other sectors of the country." Overcoming the gas imbalance in winter is not possible without reducing consumption, and to achieve this reduction, the investment capacity and executive ability of the private sector must be seriously activated.
