Malek Shariati Niasar, the representative of the people of Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasized the need for this ministry to focus on its core missions during the second special meeting to review the programs of Mehrdad Akhlaghi, the proposed Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. Shariati referred to various sections of the proposed Minister of Defense's economic program and discussed the necessity of localizing the knowledge of refinery and petrochemical design.

The Current Status of the Petrochemical Industry and the Responsibilities of the Ministry of Defense

Shariati continued by stating: "Your programs mention strengthening the knowledge of refinery, petrochemical, and petro-refinery design. Meanwhile, the primary duty and mission of the Ministry of Defense is to meet the basic needs of the armed forces." He pointed out that if the name of the proposed Minister of Defense were not in this program, it could have been perceived as the program of the Minister of Oil.

The representative of the people of Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat, Islamshahr, and Pardis in the Assembly criticized the current situation where all executive bodies of the country interfere in each other's work, stating that this problem arises from the establishment of order in economic activities. He pointed out that the Ministry of Defense currently has more petrochemical companies than the Ministry of Oil, noting that this situation is truly mistaken.

Call for Reevaluation of the Responsibilities of the Ministry of Defense

Shariati addressed Mehrdad Akhlaghi, saying: "All your time should be spent in your area of expertise, where you also have experience, namely providing equipment and basic needs for the armed forces. We are at war, and it is not your duty to spend your time strengthening knowledge in the field of petrochemicals and refineries." He requested that the proposed Minister of Defense pay attention to these issues and emphasized that these duties should be entrusted to those who are qualified.

In conclusion, Shariati stressed that the Ministry of Defense should focus on its core missions and avoid interfering in areas that are the responsibility of other ministries. He called for the government to pursue this matter to ensure that the primary focus of the Ministry of Defense remains on meeting the needs of the armed forces.
