Maersk Tankers has taken an important step towards equipping its new fleet of Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) with ammonia fuel. The project for the modification and optimization of these ships, known as RIPPLE, has been selected for funding from the European Innovation Fund and is currently awaiting the finalization of the grant agreement for this financial support.
Details of the RIPPLE Project
The RIPPLE project focuses on equipping ships with dual-fuel engines that allow the use of ammonia as marine fuel, helping to reduce emissions from the operations of these vessels. The continuation of work on this project depends on securing commercial commitments from customers, highlighting the importance of collaboration with customers to achieve environmental goals.

Introduction of the New Ship Jessie Mærsk
In this context, yesterday in Mokpo, South Korea, Maersk Tankers celebrated the naming of its new ship, Jessie Mærsk, as the second vessel in a series of ten large ammonia and gas carriers (VLAC/VLGC). These ships are particularly significant as part of Maersk's return to gas transportation and represent the company's long-term commitment to the ownership and operation of forward-looking vessels.
The new ships are designed for transporting LPG and ammonia and have the option for dual-fuel engine modification, providing the necessary flexibility to operate with clean ammonia fuel in the future. These vessels are constructed to meet today's market needs while simultaneously contributing to the development of energy transportation for tomorrow.
We thank everyone at HD Hyundai Samho and also at Maersk Tankers who contributed to this achievement and the entry of Jessie Mærsk into our fleet. We eagerly anticipate the arrival of this ship in our fleet and wish her and her crew safe and successful voyages.
