Logtech AS, located in Norway, has recently chosen Emerson's AspenTech Geolog software for automating subsurface data and petrophysical processes. This software has been developed to support oil and gas operators on oil platforms in Norway, particularly in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) area.

Details of Software Selection and Replacement

Logtech, known for providing quality control, data management, regulatory reporting, and petrophysical analysis for upstream operators in Norway, decided to replace an old software system from another supplier with the AspenTech Geolog platform after a technical evaluation. This software will help Logtech automate its workflows and custom scripts while improving well data processing and analysis.

Expectations from the New System

Logtech anticipates that this system will reduce response times and increase efficiency, especially in evaluating large volumes of subsurface data for exploration and production clients. Lars J. Fihl, Chairman of the Board of Logtech, stated: "To successfully optimize our internal solutions, we needed a tool with the right balance of complex technical features and flexibility to deliver the high-quality data we are known for, with greater efficiency and automation."

Technology and Support for Multi-Well Data

The AspenTech Geolog software is part of Emerson's subsurface science and engineering portfolio, which supports multi-well and multi-user datasets. This portfolio has been developed in accordance with the OSDU Data Platform standard to support interoperability and data management in subsurface processes. Logtech and its sister company, Petrovar, have previously conducted proof-of-concept projects with Norwegian energy companies focused on using the OSDU standard to simplify data management and collaboration.

Challenges and Opportunities in the Oil Industry

Vikas Duhal, Senior Vice President of Modeling and Optimization at Emerson's Aspen Technology business, stated: "Maximizing the value of existing subsurface data for upstream operators navigating today's industry challenges has become essential." Emerson aims to assist Logtech's clients in more efficiently evaluating existing well data and identifying new exploration and production opportunities, given the combination of automated petrophysical analysis and standard data management.
