Khuzestan has traveled to Basra, Iraq, with the aim of developing economic cooperation and supplying oil equipment. Shahla Amouri, the Secretary of the Khuzestan Government and Private Sector Dialogue Council, emphasized the importance of Basra as the economic capital of Iraq, stating that the presence of the Khuzestan trade and economic delegation at the third International Oil, Gas, Energy, and Petrochemicals Exhibition and Conference in Basra has paved the way for expert negotiations to develop industrial exchanges and export technical and engineering services.
Assessment of Iraq's Infrastructure Needs
Amouri continued: This event was a practical opportunity to accurately assess the infrastructure needs of southern Iraq and align them with the production and engineering capacities of Khuzestan Province. Cooperation with the General Company for Ports of Iraq
In the meetings of the Ahvaz Chamber's delegation to Basra with managers and representatives of the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), the possibility of cooperation between the Khorramshahr and Imam Khomeini (RA) ports and the ports of Basra was discussed. Amouri highlighted the extensive capabilities of the General Company for Ports of Iraq in managing docks and commercial fleets, emphasizing the need to reduce logistics costs and facilitate the movement of cargo vessels.
She also noted that the development of Basra's port infrastructure requires structures and technical equipment, a significant portion of which can be supplied by manufacturers and parts companies in Khuzestan. To this end, a direct communication platform between employers of Iraqi ports and manufacturers of port and maritime equipment in Khuzestan will be established.
Capabilities of Khuzestan's Small Industries
Amouri emphasized the necessity of expanding the market for small and knowledge-based industries in Khuzestan, introducing the capabilities of Khuzestani manufacturers in producing parts and localizing oil and gas equipment. She pointed out that manufacturers in the province have the capability to produce drilling bits, industrial valves, advanced pumps, and precision tools, and this capacity can facilitate their cooperation with active entities in the oil and gas industry in Iraq.
The President of the Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce also referred to discussions with construction and infrastructure stakeholders at the Basra exhibition, stating that the engineering capabilities of Khuzestan's construction and installation companies could cover part of the construction needs of companies active in Basra.
