TotalEnergies, in collaboration with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the XRG unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), has established the Phase II project of the Absheron gas field with the aim of increasing natural gas production and exports to Turkey. This plan is designed to enhance gas production capacity in the Caspian Sea and meet the needs of the European and Turkish markets.
Details of Phase II Project
According to TotalEnergies, production operations for Phase II of the Absheron gas field, located in Azerbaijani waters, will begin in 2029. This project will increase the total production capacity of the field to 6 billion cubic meters of gas per year and 47,000 barrels of gas condensate per day. This increase in production means providing new energy resources for international markets, particularly Turkey.

Meeting Market Needs
While the first phase of the Absheron gas field development is primarily dedicated to meeting the gas needs of Azerbaijan's domestic market, the second phase of this project focuses on exporting gas to Turkey and other international markets. TotalEnergies has emphasized that the gas extracted from this field will be transported to Turkey through existing infrastructure that connects Azerbaijan to the European market.
This project is considered a significant step towards strengthening international cooperation in the energy sector due to its strategic importance in providing energy for the region. Additionally, given the increasing demand for natural gas and clean energy, this plan could play a key role in ensuring sustainable energy supply.
