Iran has threatened to attack energy infrastructure across the Middle East if its security is not guaranteed. These statements come as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have increased and Iran is seeking a response from the United States regarding a plan that, according to the country, could reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Threats Regarding the Strait of Hormuz
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Iran's chief negotiator, said in a video broadcast on state television: "In a region where we cannot sell oil, no one else will be able to sell oil either; or if our security is not guaranteed, no infrastructure will remain safe." These remarks were made after Iran expected to receive an official response from the United States regarding its proposed plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz, which was one of the main routes for transporting about one-fifth of the world's gas and oil before the war, is currently witnessing increased tensions and maritime attacks from Iran. Despite Iran's claim of control over this strait, the United States insists that the route remains open.
Details of Iran's Plan and US Reactions
Iran has proposed a plan that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear negotiations within seven days, provided that the United States lifts the naval blockade on ships heading to Iran and removes oil sales sanctions. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has rejected this plan and pointed to the continued negotiations between American and Iranian negotiators.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran published a letter to American voters on September 29, accusing the United States of starting the war on February 28. The letter also claimed that over 3,600 Iranians, mostly civilians, including 400 children, have lost their lives in this war. The United States has lost 18 of its forces in this conflict.
The letter also referred to the damage inflicted on Iran's nuclear industry and some air defense sites, reiterating that the country's nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes.
The United States midterm elections will be held on November 3, and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the 100-seat Senate will be voted on.
