Consequences of Attacks on Nuclear Facilities
These countries, citing relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency, warned that such attacks would have serious consequences for nuclear safety and security and pose a serious threat to the credibility of the Agency's safeguards system and the global non-proliferation architecture. They emphasized that nuclear facilities should not be the target of attacks or threats of attack under any circumstances. Silence in the face of such attacks undermines international norms and increases the risk of normalizing them.
At the end of this statement, all member states of the United Nations are called upon to unite in a clear and firm opposition to any attack or threat of attack against nuclear facilities to strengthen nuclear safety and security and to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
