Despite sanctions and economic challenges, Iran's oil industry has continued to enhance its crude oil production capacity over the past two years. The daily production capacity of Iran's oil in October 2026 has increased to 3.715 million barrels, indicating a growth of 285 thousand barrels compared to 3.430 million barrels in September 2024.
Production and Investment Trends
This dynamism indicates an 8.3 percent increase in operational capacity. According to reports, crude oil production in October 2026 has increased by 55 thousand barrels per day compared to the same month last year. Executive activities during this period included injecting $3 billion in liquidity and focusing on optimizing surface facilities and revitalizing low-yield wells.

Strategic Steps to Increase Production
A rapid plan for a 250 thousand barrel increase in crude oil production has been initiated with a $3 billion investment, which has so far achieved 70 thousand barrels per day of its targets. This project is financed with 80 percent participation from the National Development Fund and 20 percent from the internal resources of the National Iranian Oil Company. Additionally, development packages worth €13 billion in the shared fields of West Karun, including the Azadegan and Azar fields, have been approved.
On the drilling front, 129 drilling rigs are operating around the clock, and with the signing of new contracts for the supply of 20 drilling rigs worth $1 billion, operations to drill 270 new wells have commenced.
Challenges and Solutions
Maintaining the capacity of 3.715 million barrels faces challenges; a large portion of the reservoirs are in the second half of their lifespan, and the oil industry needs to create 300 thousand barrels of new compensatory capacity. Therefore, employing modern enhanced oil recovery (EOR and IOR) methods and continuous injection of gas and water into the caps of aging fields is of high importance.
Moreover, collecting associated gas not only prevents the waste of national wealth but also helps supply feedstock for petrochemical units and stabilizes the gas network in winter.
Ultimately, increasing production capacity to 3.715 million barrels solidifies Iran's position as the second-largest OPEC producer and strengthens the country's bargaining power in the global energy market.
