Emad Rafei, the director of consumption affairs at the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, reported a significant increase in compressed natural gas (CNG) consumption following the implementation of the third gasoline rate during a program on the Economy Desk. This change is particularly noticeable as gasoline prices have reached 30,000 rials per liter. According to statistics, the consumption of CNG as an alternative fuel in vehicles has increased and reached 20 million cubic meters per day.
Details of the Increase in CNG Consumption
Rafei further pointed out the differences between CNG and gasoline consumption, explaining that with the increase in gasoline prices, more than 30 percent of drivers have turned to using CNG. This change in consumer behavior is very evident due to the lower cost of CNG compared to gasoline, especially in dual-fuel vehicles. He also mentioned the production capacity of CNG in the country, stating that Iran, with a production capacity of 90 million cubic meters per day, is considered one of the largest producers of CNG in the world.

Economic and Environmental Implications
The increase in CNG consumption can not only help reduce dependence on gasoline and increase the diversity of fuel sources but also directly impact air pollution reduction and improve the quality of life in large cities. According to Rafei, using natural gas as a clean fuel can significantly contribute to reducing greenhouse gases and improving environmental conditions. In light of these factors, the Ministry of Oil plans to develop incentive programs to increase the number of CNG stations across the country.
Finally, Rafei referred to the future policies of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, stating that the company is working to meet the growing market demands by expanding infrastructure and increasing CNG production capacity. Efforts will also be made to institutionalize the culture of using clean and renewable fuels in society through collaboration with other institutions and organizations.
