HMM Company, a key player in the maritime transport industry, has recently announced that it has signed a contract with HD Hyundai for the construction of eight new 13,000 TEU container ships. These ships are designed to utilize dual-fuel LNG and the total value of the contract amounts to approximately 2 trillion won (about 1.7 billion dollars). According to this contract, the ships will be built by two companies, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho, and their delivery will gradually begin from 2029.
Details of HMM's New Fleet
The new HMM ships are designed to strengthen the company's core fleet and improve operational efficiency on key trade routes. Due to their high environmental standards and use of LNG fuel, these ships will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants. HMM intends to deploy these ships in its main services on the FIM route (Far East-India-Mediterranean).

Development of Transport Infrastructure and Distribution Networks
In addition to this order, HMM has also acquired four ferries through resale agreements. These ferries include three with a capacity of 2,800 TEU and one with a capacity of 1,700 TEU. These ships will connect to emerging regional ferry networks, assisting main ports and enhancing the competitiveness of the company's 'Hub & Spoke' network.
Given recent developments in the maritime transport industry and the increasing demand for sustainable and efficient services, HMM is looking to maintain its strategic investment approach to achieve qualitative growth and structural improvement in this industry. These developments will not only help HMM compete in global markets but also contribute to the sustainable development of the maritime transport sector.
