New Marine Traffic Services System
Kongsberg Norcontrol Pty Ltd has been contracted to provide this new VTS system. This system includes radar, vessel tracking, communications, CCTV, weather and ocean data, providing operators with a clear picture of activities in the port waters. This innovation will enhance maritime safety, operational reliability, and real-time visibility of vessel movements.
The Safe Ships Forum was established in 2016 with the aim of bringing together industry leaders, regulators, port operators, mariners, and maritime experts to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and advance this year's theme: “Enhancing Maritime Safety through Collaboration, Innovation, and Leadership.”
Western Australia's Ports Minister, Stephen Dawson, stated: “The Safe Ships Forum brings together maritime professionals to share knowledge, drive innovation, and improve safety outcomes in the maritime industry. The new marine traffic services system ensures that the Hedland port remains supported by modern and reliable technologies that enhance safety and effective port operations.”
He also added: “Hosting the Safe Ships Forum is an incredible opportunity to showcase Western Australia's maritime leadership and world-class port operations to global industry leaders. Through investment in critical infrastructure and initiatives that bring the industry together, the Cook Labor Government is maintaining the safety, efficiency, and global competitiveness of Western Australia's ports.”
