HEMEXPO – The Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Marine Equipment of Greece, held its first business mission to northern Spain from September 21 to 25, 2026, aimed at strengthening the presence of Greek marine equipment manufacturers in one of the most active shipbuilding markets in Europe and opening new markets for Greek companies and technologies.

Visits to Shipyards

This mission involved traveling over 1000 kilometers from Vigo and Ferrol to the Asturias region, Santander, and Bilbao, during which meetings were held with the shipyards Metalships & Docks, Armon, Freire, Nodosa, Navantia, Gondan, Astander, and Zamakona.

Representatives from the companies ERMA TECH GROUP, EMMIS, EUROCHEM, LALIZAS, PRISMA ELECTRONICS, PSYCTOTHERM, SEABRIGHT, UTECO, and VELA ELECTRIC participated in this mission. During the visits, Greek companies had the opportunity to meet directly with the managers of the supply and commercial sectors of the shipyards and learned about existing and future shipbuilding projects.

Collaboration Opportunities and Innovative Technologies

This mission represented a shipbuilding market with strong orders and high technology levels and significant needs for new, reliable, and flexible suppliers. Many Spanish shipyards have plans for new ship constructions that extend into the coming years.

Among the significant projects is the construction program for new F-110 class frigates for the Spanish Navy at Navantia in Ferrol. Following the expression of interest in Greek technologies, Navantia immediately sent non-disclosure agreements to Greek companies after the meeting to explore specific collaboration opportunities.

HEMEXPO's Executive Director, Christos Pakakis, stated: "We were impressed by the high level of technology in the projects under construction at Spanish shipyards. These shipyards are looking for quality and innovative solutions and provided us with valuable information regarding supply methods and the needs for integrating new suppliers."

Ultimately, the collaboration with ACLUNAGA – the Galician shipbuilding cluster, had a significant impact on the success of this mission and facilitated most of the meetings for the Greek delegation. ACLUNAGA's CEO, Oscar Gomez, announced: "We identified significant opportunities for collaboration between Greek and Galician companies that can complement each other in their value chains."
