Hamid Bord, the head of the Ministry of Oil, is assessing the field progress of the reconstruction of damaged facilities in the South Pars gas field during his first operational trip. This visit takes place on October 13, 2023, and includes examining the obstacles and challenges ahead to expedite the completion of repairs and restore lost capacities to the production cycle. The importance of this issue increases with the approach of the cold days of the year and the rising need for gas supply for various sectors of the country, especially in winter.
Damage to Gas Facilities
The South Pars field, as one of the largest gas fields in the world, was targeted by airstrikes during the third imposed war, resulting in serious damage to the gas facilities and refineries in the region. These attacks not only reduced the gas processing capacity of the country but also led to a significant loss of natural gas production. Estimates indicate that this damage has resulted in approximately a 25% reduction in gas processing capacity in this field.

Ministry of Oil's Reconstruction Efforts
Following these attacks, the Ministry of Oil mobilized technical and executive resources to reconstruct the damaged facilities and restore lost capacity to the production cycle. These efforts include repairing and upgrading refineries and petrochemical facilities in the South Pars region. Specifically, the Ministry of Oil is striving to expedite the reconstruction process and restore gas production capacity to pre-damage levels by utilizing modern technologies and collaborating with domestic and foreign companies.
During this visit, Hamid Bord will not only visit gas refineries but also tour petrochemical facilities. Holding a meeting to assess the reconstruction process of energy infrastructure in South Pars is another program of this trip. Given the importance of sustainable gas supply during the cold days of the year, this visit and related follow-ups can play a significant role in meeting the country's needs.
