Hamid Bord has been appointed as the Acting Minister of Oil of Iran by Masoud Pezeshkian. This appointment comes after the acceptance of Mohsen Paknejad's resignation. Bord assumes this position at a time when the Ministry of Oil is facing serious challenges in production, export, and the reconstruction of energy infrastructure.

Management Background and Education

Hamid Bord was born in 1964 and is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Oil Industry University. He also holds a master's degree in Executive Management with a strategic focus. His management experience includes leadership roles in major oil companies and activities in the southern oil-rich regions. Bord served as the CEO of Marun Oil and Gas Production Company from 2010 to 2012, and then as the CEO of the National South Oil Company from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, he was appointed to manage the Iranian Offshore Oil Company in 2016.

Upcoming Challenges and the Importance of Bord's Role

Currently, one of the biggest challenges for the Ministry of Oil is maintaining production capacity while the Iranian oil and gas industry faces serious infrastructural and operational issues. In recent weeks, restoring lost capacities of oil and gas facilities has become a priority. During his management of the National Oil Company, Bord has also been active in projects aimed at increasing production and securing gas supplies. One of the significant projects under his management has been the development of the "Madar" gas field with an investment of $600 million.

Furthermore, Bord must pay attention to managing oil exports and how to handle revenues from oil sales. Given the international conditions and high oil prices, his decisions in this area could have profound impacts on the country's economy. Meanwhile, a government spokesperson has reported the possibility of gas shortages in some northern provinces and concerns about energy supply during the cold season.

Ultimately, the Ministry of Oil must move towards determining and introducing a new minister. According to Article 135 of the Constitution, the President can manage a ministry without a minister for a maximum of three months with an acting head, so Bord must quickly respond to the existing challenges.
