Guardian Decommissioning has taken responsibility for the demolition of the Bullwinkle platform, located in Green Canyon Block 65 in the Gulf of Mexico. This agreement between Guardian and Wild Well Control is aimed at commencing the abandonment wells operation starting in the fourth quarter of 2026. Under this agreement, Guardian will act as the representative for the wells and ultimately the associated pipelines and platform, taking on the responsibility for the project.

Details of the Agreement and Implementation Phases

Guardian, in collaboration with the current operator of the Bullwinkle platform, Talos Energy, and Wild Well Control, will carry out the abandonment wells operation while production at the Bullwinkle platform continues. This project will proceed in phases, initially performing abandonment wells, followed by the demolition of pipelines and the removal of the Bullwinkle platform after production has ceased by Talos.

The next phases will include platform removal, jacket reefing, site cleanup, and insurance-related activities. This agreement reflects the complementary strengths of the involved organizations. Ian Murray, President of Guardian Decommissioning, stated: "Guardian is designed to manage complex offshore decommissioning projects, including multi-well campaigns and the removal of large assets."

Previous Collaborations and Future Outlook

This agreement is based on previous relationships between Guardian and Wild Well Control, which have previously collaborated on offshore decommissioning projects, abandonment wells, and specialized well control projects. Wild Well Control and its parent company, Superior Energy Services, will continue to focus on well intervention operations and well control as Guardian takes on the responsibility for the Bullwinkle decommissioning program.

Superior's focus on well intervention will continue following its announcement of a definitive agreement to acquire Welltec International ApS, a provider of robotic well intervention and completion technologies. Brian Ellis, President of the Wellsite Solutions division of Superior Energy Services, which includes Wild Well Control and International Snubbing Services, emphasized that "we have had significant successes with Guardian on multiple projects and trust their ability to execute this campaign."

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the Bullwinkle agreement or the timeline for the final removal of the Bullwinkle platform, but given the scale of the project and its importance to the oil and energy industry, these activities are expected to have a significant impact on the environment and the oil industry.
