Analysis of Fleet Age and Market Trends
The average age of the Greek fleet decreased to 14.5 years in 2025, down from 14.8 years in 2024, indicating a younger fleet. These changes are mainly due to the purchase of younger second-hand ships and an increase in newbuilding orders. Furthermore, considering the geographical and economic situation, the Greek fleet is currently witnessing a trend of mergers and a reduction in the number of companies.
Nevertheless, despite the challenges in the global market, forecasts indicate that growth in the Greek shipping industry will continue. New orders for Tier III eco-friendly ships will also contribute to fleet expansion. While the fleet continues to grow, factors such as regional wars and rising energy prices have impacted the market.
Overall, despite the slowdown in growth in recent years, the Greek fleet continues on its growth path, and this trend seems likely to continue in the near future. This situation necessitates greater attention to market conditions and geographical changes.
