Golden Island conducted the world's largest ethanol bunkering operation by supplying approximately 5000 tons of certified bioethanol in Singapore. This operation, which took place on October 20, 2026, was held for the first time in Singapore and is recognized as a milestone in the green bunkering industry.
Bunkering Operation Details
The chemical tanker Golden Island, named Golden Centaurus, supplied fuel to the dual-fuel container ship Maersk Halifax while its containers were being transferred. A mass flow meter (MFM) was used for precise fuel measurement during this operation.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced that this operation represents the largest volume of ethanol ever delivered in a single bunkering operation. This volume is nearly double the 2800 tons of bioethanol that was delivered to the Maersk Antonia in Barcelona by Repsol in July 2026.
The Future of Ethanol Bunkering in Singapore
The ethanol bunkering operation in Singapore was announced at a bunkering conference held last week. MPA stated that this operation will provide the necessary data and experiences to assess how to adapt Singapore's existing methanol bunkering standards for ethanol bunkering, and it will also examine whether existing MFM systems can be used for future ethanol bunkering operations.
Prior to this operation, the companies involved held a safety workshop. They utilized their experience in methanol bunkering to train team members on how to handle ethanol and respond to emergencies. This action demonstrates Golden Island's commitment to safety and efficiency in bunkering operations.
