Gas supply to industries in Iran has increased by 20 percent despite a decrease in production from the South Pars gas field. The South Pars field, considered one of the largest gas fields in the world, plays a vital role in supplying the country's energy with a daily production capacity of 700 million cubic meters of gas. This field is divided into Iranian and Qatari sections, and currently, the Iranian section is facing various production challenges.

Production Decrease and Its Consequences

In recent years, gas production from the South Pars field has decreased due to technical and environmental issues. Recently, production from this field has dropped to about 600 million cubic meters per day. Meanwhile, the demand for natural gas from industries is continuously increasing, and failure to supply energy in a timely manner could lead to the shutdown of industrial units and a decrease in gross domestic product.

Increase in Gas Supply to Industries

In this situation, the Ministry of Oil decided to increase gas supply to industries. This action was taken to meet the needs of industries and prevent a crisis in energy supply. According to officials, with the implementation of new plans and the operation of new gas supply facilities, the amount of gas supplied to industries has increased by 20 percent compared to last year. This increase in gas supply to industries is particularly observed in the petrochemical and steel sectors, which are among the strategic industries of the country.

Providing gas for industries, as one of the government's priorities, not only helps maintain employment in these sectors but can also have a positive impact on the country's economic growth. In this regard, the Ministry of Oil has made extensive plans to optimize gas consumption and reduce waste.

Future Outlook

Given the decrease in production from the South Pars field and the increasing demand from industries for natural gas, it is anticipated that there will be a need for new investments in gas supply infrastructure in the near future. Additionally, further efforts to increase production from other gas fields and improve technologies related to gas extraction and production are essential. These actions could significantly contribute to sustainable energy supply for industries and ultimately aid in the country's economic growth.
