Firefighters of South Pars successfully restored calm to the South Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in a ١٢-day operation. This operation was conducted due to incidents and the possibility of hazardous gas emissions and included gas measurement in various areas.

Gas Measurement and Emergency Condition Control

Javad Ghodrati, Head of Safety and Firefighting at the Senior HSE Management of the South Pars Special Economic Zone, pointed out the importance of gas measurement in these conditions and said: "Given the volume of smoke and gases emitted, there was a possibility of toxic material release, and it was necessary to continuously monitor the environmental conditions." He added that this gas measurement is carried out by both safety and firefighting forces, and the necessary equipment for this action is provided to the forces.

Responsibilities of Safety and Firefighting Forces

Ghodrati explained that providing advice to the scene commander is one of the responsibilities of safety forces in emergency situations. This capacity is defined in the crisis management structure of the region. He also referred to the readiness mechanism of safety forces and said: "In the safety watch building, a specific mechanism has been defined, and the watch program for related individuals is announced weekly so that in case of an emergency, the responsible forces are present on-site."

The Head of Safety and Firefighting of the organization emphasized that the responsibilities of safety and firefighting are assigned to the safety department and are pursued in two sections: safety and firefighting. The safety section has a more preventive aspect, while firefighting has a reactive aspect and is responsible for controlling conditions and conducting operations in the event of an incident.

Monitoring Safety Activities

Ghodrati further referred to the responsibilities of the safety sector at the regional level and stated that these responsibilities are particularly carried out in the high supervision of companies located in the region. He identified one of these responsibilities as auditing the safety activities of the resident companies and added: "Safety monitoring and control of activities are also conducted within the organization, which covers a wide area due to the extensive activities of the organization."

He also referred to the human capital of the organization and said: "This organization has about ٤,٥٠٠ personnel, of which about two-thirds are contractor forces. Monitoring contractor activities, safety control, and risk management are other responsibilities of the Senior HSE Safety Department within the organization."

Firefighting Services in Assaluyeh

Ghodrati noted that the firefighting forces in Assaluyeh provide services not only related to companies but also in incidents outside the industrial area. He said: "Road accidents and incidents within the cities and villages around are also considered within this interaction, and the colleagues of this group perform duties beyond their organizational responsibilities in such incidents."
