Fathollah Hosseini, a member of the Energy Commission of the Parliament, emphasized the need for the development and targeted use of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). He noted that the free dual-fuel conversion plan for vehicles is significant and said it could shift part of gasoline consumption towards CNG, thereby reducing pressure on the country's foreign currency resources for fuel supply.

Fuel and Energy Consumption Management

Hosseini also pointed out that the main issue currently is not just the production of fuel and energy, but the management and reform of consumption patterns in the country. He noted that if high-consumption vehicles continue to operate and the share of alternative fuels does not increase, even an increase in refining capacity will not be able to meet the growth in consumption in the long term.

The Necessity of Diversifying the Fuel Basket

This parliament representative emphasized that diversifying the fuel basket is not an option but a national and economic necessity. He stated that the country should not rely solely on gasoline to meet the increasing needs of vehicles. In this regard, the use of CNG, the development of low-consumption and electric vehicles, the modernization of the transportation fleet, and improving efficiency should be prioritized.

Hosseini continued, "Solving the imbalance with temporary measures is not possible. It is not a sustainable policy to think about increasing gasoline production every year with rising consumption. We must manage consumption simultaneously with increasing production, and this is where the development of the fuel basket and dual-fuel conversion of vehicles becomes important."
