Farhad Shahroki, Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasized the importance of the petrochemical industry in the country's economy, considering the transition from raw material sales and the development of the value chain as priorities for this industry. He outlined the future outlook of Iran's petrochemical industry based on three main pillars: completing the value chain, increasing productivity, and diversifying export markets.

Petrochemical Capacities of Iran

Shahroki pointed out the high capacities of Iran's petrochemical industry, stating: "This industry has significant advantages such as access to feedstock, skilled human resources, and suitable infrastructure." According to him, the future of this industry depends on moving from mere capacity building to economically viable production. This shift in approach can pave the way for increased productivity and added value in the petrochemical industry.

Development of Value-Added Products

The Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Parliament also emphasized the importance of producing higher value-added products as one of the solutions to reduce raw material sales. He stated: "The development of value-added products can strengthen the role of petrochemicals in the country's economy and help reduce dependence on raw oil and gas revenues."

Shahroki also stressed the need to focus on existing capacities before concentrating on the construction of new complexes. In his opinion, increasing productivity should be considered alongside the development of this industry to ensure optimal utilization of existing capacities while also benefiting from new investments.

Diversifying Export Markets

The Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Parliament introduced diversifying export markets as the third main pillar of the development of the petrochemical industry. According to him, expanding export markets can help reduce the vulnerability of the petrochemical industry's foreign trade to sanctions and geopolitical disruptions.

Shahroki also emphasized the importance of investment and injecting financial resources to activate developmental projects in the petrochemical industry. He clarified that the activities of the petrochemical industry go beyond production complexes and can impact various sectors of the economy. These sectors include equipment industries, transportation, technical and engineering services, and downstream industries.

Farhad Shahroki's statements focus on three main pillars for the future development of the petrochemical industry: completing the value chain, increasing productivity, and developing export markets. This approach can pave the way for increased added value, foreign exchange earnings, and employment in this industry.
