Farhad Shahroki, representative of the people of Sistan and Vice Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in a letter to the President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, called for the appointment of a minister from the specialized body of the oil industry. He believes that the selection of the Minister of Oil should be a strategic decision prioritizing competence and operational experience.

The Necessity of Appointing an Operationally Experienced Minister of Oil

Shahroki mentioned in this letter that currently, the country's oil industry is facing structural, technical, economic, and international challenges, and the appointment of the Minister of Oil should align with national security and economic sustainability. This decision could have significant impacts on the future of energy production, foreign revenues, and the economic power of the country.

He also emphasized the need to appoint a minister with experience from the specialized body of the oil industry, stating that this selection should not be based on political and organizational considerations, but rather on the requirements of specialized governance and risk management. Increasing production, optimizing energy consumption, and reducing imbalance are among the issues that require a manager with deep knowledge of the industry.

Managing the Complex Supply Chain of the Oil Industry

Shahroki stated that the Ministry of Oil is not just an executive body, but rather the custodian of managing a complex chain of exploration, development, and production of hydrocarbon reservoirs, refining and processing, transportation and distribution of products, and international energy trade. He added: "Managing such an entity requires managerial authority and expertise in reservoir engineering, energy economics, and oil laws and contracts."

He further noted that the selection of a qualified and experienced minister should be based on a track record of performance and the ability to present a scientific and operational program. According to Shahroki, the final selection of the Minister of Oil should be based on competence and national interests, and any partisan and political considerations should be set aside in this process.

Shahroki concluded this letter by emphasizing that the appointment of the Minister of Oil should be done in a way that builds trust among the human capital of the oil industry and ensures accountability to the public. He stated: "The oil industry is not the legacy of one government, but rather a trust of past generations in the hands of today and the legitimate right of future generations of Iran."
