ENGIE will soon commence the construction of eight new wind turbines at Zeebrugge Port. These turbines, with a total capacity of 42.6 megawatts, will enhance renewable electricity production in this strategic area. Three of these eight turbines will be installed at the RoRo terminal of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, while the other five will be located at the International Car Operators (ICO) site.
Project Details and Installation Timeline
This project is designed to develop renewable electricity production capacity at Zeebrugge Port and is expected to have the main structures and turbine components installed by the second half of 2027. Starting in early 2028, these turbines will be capable of generating approximately 115 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the simultaneous electricity consumption of about 33,000 households.

ENGIE's Role in Renewable Electricity Production
This new project enables ENGIE to be recognized as a leader in renewable electricity production in Belgium. With 217 active wind turbines in Belgium and a total capacity of 611 megawatts, the company plays a significant role in providing renewable electricity for Belgian industries and households. These efforts are part of ENGIE's plan to expand renewable electricity production in suitable locations, including port and industrial areas that are crucial for the Belgian economy.
Support for Sustainable Development at Zeebrugge Port
Dirk De fauw, Vice President of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Mayor of Bruges, expressed his satisfaction that, in collaboration with ENGIE and other local partners, significant wind electricity production capacity has been achieved at three port terminals. He highlighted the importance of increasing wind capacity to meet the goal of installing half a gigawatt of wind capacity by 2030 and emphasized that the port's share of wind energy in supplying energy to the region is increasingly growing.
Henk Kindt, President of Zephyr, also emphasized the necessity of renewable energy and stated that this project will benefit all citizens. Zephyr, as a partner of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in the Portfineco project, will continue to collaborate with ENGIE and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to take further steps towards developing renewable energy capacities.
