The price of Brent oil today reached $108 per barrel, a rise attributed to the escalating crisis in the Middle East and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline. Currently, the price of Brent oil has decreased to $107.22 per barrel. Additionally, the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil has reached $102.66 per barrel.
Shutdown of Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline
The shutdown of the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia, one of the main routes for transporting the country's oil to global markets, occurred due to a drone attack on this critical infrastructure. This shutdown could affect 4% of the global oil supply and have widespread economic and social repercussions.
Economic Consequences of the Pipeline Shutdown
Due to this shutdown, the Yanbu port in Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea has only 5 to 7 days' worth of oil reserves. This situation could lead to price increases in global markets and negatively impact the global economy. Furthermore, efforts for diplomacy and resolution of this crisis seem to be failing, which could escalate tensions in the region.
Currently, given the instability in oil supply, there is a possibility of further price increases in global markets. This situation raises serious concerns about energy supply and high oil prices, which could lead to increased production costs and ultimately higher prices for goods.
