Berg Propulsion has decided to open a new office in Mumbai as part of its global network expansion. This office is set to begin operations on January 1, 2027, and will act as a contact hub for Berg Propulsion's activities in India.
Developing Relationships with Major Shipbuilding Companies
The new Berg Propulsion office in Mumbai will strengthen the company's relationships with prominent shipbuilding companies such as Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), and Chowgule Shipyard. This office will be managed by Amrita Singh, the account manager for new sales at Berg Propulsion. Amrita Singh will serve as the general manager of this office, supported by Prasenjit Roy, who has previously been the commander of the Indian Navy and the commercial shipbuilding planning manager at GRSE.
Focus on Green and Low-Carbon Projects
Amrita Singh stated: "Our focus is on identifying and supporting projects that provide added value solutions, enhance efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions." Prasenjit Roy also pointed to the opportunities available in the Indian maritime and coast guard sectors, saying: "The Indian propulsion sector is currently very exciting, and these two entities have significant expansion plans."
Additionally, Indian shipbuilding industries are paying special attention to green propulsion opportunities and have shown great interest in hybrid configurations, variable drives, and controllable pitch propeller (CPP) systems. Prasenjit Roy added: "Proximity to customers in this market is very important, where in the next five years, optimizing efficiency will become a minimum requirement for market differentiation."
With strong private sector investment and government support for priority projects focused on sustainability, Berg Propulsion aims to increase its business base in India in the new construction sectors of tugs, dredging, and OSVs. Furthermore, this office will establish a network of trained service representatives in Mumbai, Kochi, and Visakhapatnam, where most of the customers' vessels operate.
The general manager of the new office also mentioned attracting local talent and conducting training programs to build long-term expertise to better serve customers across India, adding: "This office can also assist customers in other South Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka."
