Al-Mouti, the secretary of environmental organizations for natural resources and sustainable development across the country, spoke in a recent meeting about the Sohrab oil field and its location in the Hawr al-Azim wetland. He stated that this oil field has been located at the most sensitive point of Hawr al-Azim and referred to the management and environmental challenges of this project.
Introduction to the Sohrab Oil Field
The Sohrab oil field is one of Iran's most important oil fields, located in Khuzestan province. This field, with a daily production capacity of 25,000 barrels of oil, plays a significant role in meeting the country's domestic needs. However, its location near the Hawr al-Azim wetland, which is recognized as one of the most valuable aquatic ecosystems in the country, raises concerns.

Management and Environmental Challenges
Al-Mouti further pointed to the management issues of the Hawr al-Azim wetland and said: "A comprehensive restoration plan is our demand and must be pursued with greater seriousness." In his opinion, inappropriate planning could lead to environmental degradation and the loss of biodiversity in this area.
The development of the Sohrab oil field is taking place while the Hawr al-Azim wetland, as one of the largest wetlands in the country, is facing serious challenges. Repeated droughts and declining water levels in this wetland have raised concerns among environmental activists.
