Aker BP has officially launched the Alve Nord, Idun Nord, and Ørn fields in the Norwegian Sea. This project, which has been brought into operation due to the use of existing infrastructure at the Skarv field, has a production capacity of 120 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) and reached production one year ahead of the planned schedule.
Official Opening of the Fields
Terje Aasland, the Norwegian Minister of Energy, officially opened these fields on October 19. These fields are considered part of the larger Skarv project and are directly connected to the existing infrastructure in the area. This strengthens the role of this region as an energy production hub.

Economic and Environmental Impacts
The gas produced from these fields is processed on the FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel and transported via the Åsgard transportation system to Kårstø. Aker BP stated that these fields will help maintain gas delivery from the Norwegian Sea. The use of existing infrastructure also allows for a greater portion of recoverable resources to be extracted while keeping greenhouse gas emissions per unit of production low.
Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP, stated: “We have linked three developments in one project, started production from three new fields, and strengthened one of our most important production areas.”
The Norwegian Minister of Energy added: “The Skarv fields demonstrate how existing infrastructure on Norway's oil platforms can be used to create significant value for society.” He also pointed to the positive employment impacts and Norway's role as a sustainable energy supplier in a tense world.
This project not only helps strengthen Norway's energy infrastructure but will also lead to job creation and bolster the local economy. Overall, the Alve Nord, Idun Nord, and Ørn fields will benefit the community and the Norwegian energy industry and help solidify Norway's position as a reliable energy supplier on the international stage.
