Afentra plc has recently updated its drilling program at the Impala-2 field located in Block 3/05, Angola. The company is looking to commence production at this field in the first quarter of 2027 by moving the Borr Grid drilling rig to the Impala-2 development site. This program change has been made to optimize the drilling process and maintain operational dynamics.
Drilling Details and Production Goals
According to available information, the Impala-2 project is considered one of the main drilling targets in Block 3/05. The field is planned to achieve a production capacity of 4,000 barrels per day (bopd). After completing the drilling at Impala-2, the Borr Grid rig will return to its previous location, the Pacassa SW field, to drill and complete a new side branch.

The Pacassa SW field, considered one of the significant discoveries in the area, achieved 136 meters of recoverable oil in its previous drilling. However, operational issues in accessing the well have necessitated the drilling of a new side branch. Initial oil production from this field is also expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027 through existing production infrastructure at the Pacassa field.
Resource Potential Analysis
Afentra is also reviewing the Pacassa SW field map using new well data to assess its resource potential. Previous estimates suggest that this field could hold up to approximately 70 million barrels of oil (MMbbl) in resources. The company has stated that after completing the assessment, new estimates of in-place oil volume and available resources will be released.
Paul McDaid, CEO of Afentra, stated: "The decision to move directly to Impala-2 provides operational flexibility and optimizes the drilling program for Block 3/05, allowing us to maintain operational dynamics." The company has also planned to initiate hydraulic fracturing operations in Block 3/05 in early 2027.
