ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), as a key player in the energy industry, is exploring strategic options to acquire up to 50% of Energos Infrastructure. The value of this company is reported to be approximately $3 billion. This action clearly demonstrates ADNOC's efforts to strengthen its position in the global LNG (liquefied natural gas) market and related infrastructure.

Development of LNG Infrastructure and Market Developments

Energos Infrastructure, which owns 13 floating LNG assets including storage and floating gas delivery units and LNG carriers, is undergoing developmental programs that allow it to operate in various markets including Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico, and the Netherlands. The lack of official confirmation from ADNOC or Energos regarding this deal indicates the early stages of negotiations.

Additionally, reports indicate that shipowners have registered more orders for VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) in 2026 than in any similar period in the past 25 years. These two events reflect an emerging strategic reality: geographical fragmentation, insecurity at choke points, and the reconstruction of energy trade routes have led to a global competition for ownership of ships, terminals, and floating infrastructure.

Investment Challenges and Opportunities

Apollo Global Management is seeking strategic options for Energos, which includes a complete or partial sale of the company. XRG, as a potential investor in this area, is looking to acquire half of Energos. This acquisition will not only provide XRG access to LNG import capacity and long-term infrastructure contracts but will also serve as a maritime bridge in the energy supply chain.

Estimates suggest that the number of VLCC orders in 2026 will range between 164 and 217, indicating a historical commitment to long-term crude oil flows and fleet renewal. Estimated investment in this sector is projected to exceed $20 billion. These developments, alongside the age of the VLCC fleet, with about 20% of them being over 20 years old, reinforce the need for fleet replacement and renewal.

ADNOC and XRG are striving to achieve global dominance in the LNG market, considering geopolitical changes and the need for energy supply security. This approach not only creates flexibility in responding to supply disruptions but also enables better risk management and strengthens market stability.
