The drilling list in the Anadarko Basin has reached 8055 operational locations, indicating a 37% increase compared to last year. This field is recognized as one of the top economic fields among the major fields in the Lower 48 states with oil prices at $60 per barrel.
Improvement in Development Economics in the Anadarko Field
The increase of 2175 drilling locations points to an improvement in the development economics of this field. The northwest, Cherokee, and Merge areas have played a significant role in this increase. According to reports, 1554 locations in the Anadarko Field have breakeven prices of less than $50 per barrel of WTI crude oil at the PV-10 base and semi-cycle.
Increasing Role of Private Operators
Private operators are playing an increasing role in the Anadarko Field, currently holding about 70% of the operational drilling list. In contrast, the share of public operators in operational production has decreased from about 50% in 2020 to 25%. These figures reflect various market activities, as the share of the drilling list indicates the distribution of potential drilling locations rather than current production.
Financial Developments and Production Forecast
Since the beginning of this year, over $4 billion has been invested in mergers and acquisitions in the Anadarko Field, reflecting operators' efforts to acquire assets and expand development opportunities. Production in the Anadarko Field is expected to increase by 15% by 2030, supported by the expansion of the drilling list and ongoing investments.
Ryan Hill, a senior analyst at EIR and author of this report, emphasizes that mergers, the expansion of the drilling list, and private investment are shaping the outlook of the Anadarko Field. The findings highlight the importance of acquisition costs and development economics in maintaining activities in this field.
