Wärtsilä, a technology group, has signed a five-year service contract with the Greek operator TMS Cardiff Gas to support the performance of two newly delivered liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs).

Contract Details

This contract is designed to maximize the availability and reliability of the vessels through optimized maintenance planning, specialized support, and predictive maintenance services. This order was registered in the third quarter of 2026.

With the growth of LNG trade, vessel operators are under increasing pressure to maintain high levels of reliability, efficiency, and schedule adherence. Effective support throughout the equipment's lifespan plays a crucial role in helping vessel operators reduce unplanned downtime and optimize maintenance activities. This contract is based on the successful relationship between Wärtsilä and TMS Cardiff Gas, which updated a previous contract related to seven vessels in the company's fleet in 2025.

Vessel Equipment

This contract includes two LNGCs named Al Thurayya and Al Majhoulah with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. Utilizing Wärtsilä's Dynamic Maintenance Planning services, these vessels will benefit from flexible maintenance scheduling, longer maintenance intervals, and reduced spare parts consumption. The contract also includes 24/7 operational support, contract management services, and predictive maintenance services called Expert Insight, which uses real-time operational data to identify potential issues before they arise.

Each vessel is equipped with two WinGD 5X72DF two-stroke main engines and four Wärtsilä 34DF auxiliary engines. Additionally, Wärtsilä gas valve units are installed on these vessels.

Henrik Wilhelms, Sales Contract Manager at Wärtsilä Marine, stated: “As marine operations become more complex, operators are seeking predictability, efficiency, and enhanced support throughout the asset's lifecycle. By combining advanced digital capabilities, predictive maintenance, and specialized services throughout the asset's lifespan, we help customers maximize asset performance, reduce operational risk, and remain competitive in a rapidly changing operational environment.”

The two vessels have recently been commissioned and are part of TMS Cardiff Gas's fleet expansion program. The company is part of TMS, which manages over 140 vessels in the LNG, LPG, tanker, dry bulk, and container transportation sectors. In addition to the service contract and installed equipment, TMS Cardiff Gas also utilizes Wärtsilä's Fleet Optimization Solution (FOS) across its broader fleet.
