The Oil Industry Data Governance Platform will be operational by the end of this year. This new platform is designed to improve data management and enhance efficiency in decision-making. Pejman Omid Moghadami, head of the Information Technology, Security, and Smart Government Development Department of the Ministry of Oil, referred to the upcoming National Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence Conference on October 13 and 14, stating that the goal of this event is to enhance knowledge and exchange experiences in this field.

Goals of the National Data Governance Conference

This event is seen as an opportunity to become acquainted with the latest research and practical experiences in the field of data governance. At this conference, the specific needs and issues of the oil industry will be examined, and opinions will be sought from thinkers and experts in this area. Omid Moghadami emphasized the importance of data-centricity in the oil industry and stated that the Ministry of Oil is planning to develop data governance and a data-driven economy based on identified capacities.

Challenges in the Oil Industry

Omid Moghadami pointed out various challenges faced by the oil industry. One of these challenges is the siloed maintenance of data and the lack of adequate standards for information exchange. According to him, a significant portion of the oil industry's data is stored in silos, which underscores the necessity of establishing a dedicated data hub for the oil industry and the data governance platform. It is hoped that the first phase of the data governance platform will be operational by the end of this year and will be integrated into the value chain of information technology in the oil industry.

The head of the Information Technology, Security, and Smart Government Development Department of the Ministry of Oil also mentioned the weaknesses in centralized data policymaking, the multitude of siloed systems, and the poor quality of some data as other challenges in this area.

Developing Employee Skills and Collaborating with Universities

Two other main focuses of this conference are the transfer of practical experiences and networking among oil industry professionals and academics. According to Omid Moghadami, the main goal of this event is mutual recognition among the actors of the information technology ecosystem in the industry and academic specialists. Holding specialized sessions and involving selected managers from the Ministry of Oil's subsidiaries in this conference will provide a platform for more serious follow-up on these issues.

Omid Moghadami also announced the definition and pursuit of multiple artificial intelligence projects in the subsidiaries of the Ministry of Oil and emphasized the need for comprehensive planning for the oil industry's entry into the field of artificial intelligence. He reminded that the Ministry of Oil is striving to design a suitable path for utilizing the capacities of this technology and protecting its information by leveraging successful global experiences.

Finally, Omid Moghadami noted that universities and knowledge-based companies play a vital role in the development of knowledge and technology, and the Ministry of Oil welcomes their collaboration to solve real issues. This conference can help in the exchange of organizational and research knowledge, and its practical outcomes can be utilized in the planning and activities of various managements.
