During the MaritimeONE Scholarship 2026 award ceremony, held last night by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), a total of $1.5 million Singapore dollars was awarded to 61 students. These scholarships were funded by 45 supporting organizations, including maritime companies, unions, associations, and foundations.
Investing in Skilled Workforce Development
These scholarships are designated for students in higher education across diverse fields, aiming to create a pipeline of skilled workers for Singapore's maritime industry. Diversity in Student Profiles
While students in maritime-related fields continue to form the core of MaritimeONE scholarship recipients, several winners are studying in minor or other specialized fields such as international business, data analysis, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. Specifically, for the first time, a MaritimeONE scholarship has been awarded to a student at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) who is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Systems and Design.
Additionally, two current students from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) also received this scholarship and are currently studying marine and offshore engineering.
The profiles of these students reflect the industry's need for a workforce with diverse skills to support ongoing corporate transformations towards digitalization and carbon reduction.
Fostering Social Responsibility in Students
The MaritimeONE 2026 student group kicked off with a three-day educational program designed to foster friendships, industry integration, professional networking, and social responsibility. This program provides forward-thinking maritime students with new insights into the industry and prepares them through visits to renowned maritime companies and specialized career development workshops.
Moreover, these students engage in social activities by collaborating with social projects such as the Singapore Food Bank and the Ocean Goal Project, contributing to meaningful environmental and social changes. This approach helps SMF nurture targeted and responsible talents that contribute to the advancement of the global maritime industry and the broader community.
