The Eighth Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held on November ٥, ١٤٠٢ (October ٢٧, ٢٠٢٣) in Moscow with the presence of the heads of member countries and their high-ranking representatives. This summit is considered an opportunity to examine strategic issues in the gas industry and strengthen cooperation among gas-producing and exporting countries.

Presence of Iranian Officials at the Summit

Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Russia, announced that Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, will travel to Moscow to participate in this summit. Additionally, the twenty-eighth ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held on November ٤, ١٤٠٢, where Hamid Bord, the head of the Ministry of Oil, will also be present.

Summit Agenda

An extraordinary meeting of the Executive Board will be held on November ٣ under the chairmanship of Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, Deputy for International Affairs and Commerce of the Ministry of Oil. Reviewing and finalizing key documents, including the final statement of the summit of heads, is among the agenda of these meetings.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum, as one of the intergovernmental frameworks for dialogue and coordination among natural gas producing and exporting countries, holds its summits and ministerial meetings with the aim of exchanging views on developments in gas markets, the outlook for supply and demand, and energy security. Other topics such as the development of the natural gas market and the examination of trends in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry are also on the agenda of these meetings.

The summit of the heads of member countries of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum is held periodically every two years. The first summit of this forum was held in ٢٠١١ in Doha, Qatar, followed by Moscow in ٢٠١٣, Tehran in ٢٠١٥, Santa Cruz, Bolivia in ٢٠١٧, Malabo, Equatorial Guinea in ٢٠١٩, Doha in ٢٠٢٢, and Algiers in ٢٠٢٤ hosting the subsequent sessions of this summit.

Iran, as one of the founders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, with approximately ٣٤ trillion cubic meters of proven natural gas reserves, is considered the second-largest holder of gas reserves in the world after Russia. Meanwhile, the member countries of the forum collectively hold about ٧٠% of the world's proven natural gas reserves.
