Massoud Pezeshkian, in a meeting with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, emphasized the necessity of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. This meeting, held on October 19, demonstrates the willingness of both countries to expand relations in various economic and political fields.
New Agreements in the Caspian Sea Sector
Pezeshkian referred to the agreements reached in the Caspian Sea sector and commercial cooperation, stating that these agreements could provide a suitable ground for deepening economic and regional cooperation between Iran and Russia. He expressed hope that during his upcoming trip to Russia, the agreements between the two countries in the fields of energy, transportation, and power plant cooperation would reach the implementation and operational stage.
Development of Interactions in the Oil and Gas Sector
Sergey Lavrov also emphasized Moscow's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Tehran and identified the development of interactions in the fields of oil and gas, communications and media, cultural cooperation, and transportation as important areas of cooperation between the two countries. He also pointed to the necessity of expanding scientific and academic relations between Iran and Russia, which could help strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Currently, the capacity of Iran's oil and gas fields reaches about 150 billion barrels, and this capacity could significantly increase with joint cooperation with Russia. Additionally, the South Pars gas field, with a daily production capacity of 700 million cubic meters of gas, is considered one of Iran's most important energy resources, and cooperation with Russia in this area could help improve the economic situation of both countries.
Given the global conditions and the need for sustainable energy supply, Iran and Russia's cooperation could serve as a successful model for energy supply for countries in the region and even Europe. This cooperation could also contribute to strengthening energy security at the international level.
