Siemens Energy has chosen the Octopus High Energy battery system for its new hybrid vessel named Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV Plus), which is currently under construction at the Marco Polo Marine shipyard in Batam, Indonesia. This vessel is designed to support operations in the oil and gas sectors as well as wind energy, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.
Battery System Details and Capabilities
According to the contract, EST-Floattech is responsible for supplying the battery system, which has a capacity of over 1 megawatt hour. Siemens Energy acts as the system integrator for the hybrid power plant of this vessel and employs its BlueDrive PlusC technology in this project. The battery system is designed to support hybrid propulsion and dynamic positioning operations. During dynamic positioning operations, the batteries will be capable of providing spinning reserve and absorbing load fluctuations, which helps reduce the number of active generators and improve the efficiency of the remaining generators.
Vessel Features and Future Development Capabilities
The CSOV Plus vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design of Norway, includes features for operations in wind energy and oil and gas. This vessel is equipped with an active crane with a capacity of 100 tons and a motion-compensated transfer bridge capable of supporting personnel transfer in wave heights of up to 3 meters. Additionally, this vessel is designed to allow for battery expansion up to 20 megawatt hours in the future, enabling the vessel to operate fully electrically. The modular battery architecture from EST-Floattech allows for additional capacity to be added to the existing battery management system.
Upon delivery, this vessel will be operated by PKR Offshore, a subsidiary of Marco Polo Marine based in Taiwan. Its first deployment will support Siemens Gamesa's wind energy projects in Taiwanese waters under a multi-year framework agreement.
This contract marks EST-Floattech's first project in Singapore and Taiwan, expanding the company's presence in the Asia-Pacific marine energy market.
