Shell Offshore has begun production from Phase 3 of the Silvertip project in the Perdido field located in the Gulf of Mexico. This phase includes two wells that contribute to increased production in the Perdido floating infrastructure. The wells produce from the Silvertip Frio reservoir and are expected to reach a maximum combined gross production of up to 6,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).
Details of Phase 3 and Available Resources
Phase 3 of the Silvertip project has estimated recoverable resources of 17 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), classified as 2P resources. Shell made the final investment decision for this project in December 2024. These two wells are connected to existing subsea infrastructure, and Shell holds a 40% ownership stake in the project. Chevron holds the remaining 60%.
Key Facts About the Perdido Field
The Perdido field is located in the Alaminos Canyon and is approximately 200 miles (321 kilometers) south of Galveston, Texas, at a depth of 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) below sea level. This field has been producing oil since 2010. The ownership of the Perdido area is divided among Shell (35% and operator), Chevron (37.5%), 3C Perdido Holdings (26.5%), and BP (1%).
According to Colette Hirstius, Shell's Executive Vice President for the Gulf and President of Shell USA, by adding new production through existing Perdido infrastructure, greater value can be safely delivered and the lifespan of a global asset can be optimized.
