The National Iranian Oil Company has vigorously continued its exploratory activities over the past two years, conducting 23,834 meters of exploratory drilling. These activities have led to the completion of drilling operations for 8 exploratory wells and the maturation of 13 oil and gas exploratory targets. Additionally, necessary permits for future drilling have been obtained for 9 other targets.

Discovery of New Fields in Fars Province

The Takht gas field, located in the northwest of Khenj County, approximately 35 kilometers from the Shanoul and Homa gas fields, is among the new discoveries of this period. Estimates indicate that the in-place gas volume of this field is about 7,500 billion cubic feet, and assuming a recovery factor of 72 percent, the recoverable gas amounts to 5,700 billion cubic feet. The economic value of this discovery is also estimated to be around 45 billion dollars.

Development of Exploratory Activities in New Areas

The discovery of the Pazan field is another significant achievement in the Zagros region, indicating the identification of approximately 200 million barrels of in-place oil. Furthermore, in the lower Sarvak section of the Azar and Changuleh fields, 2.4 billion barrels of in-place oil have been added to the identified resources.

Explorations in new areas, especially in the south, west, and northeast of the country, continue. Exploratory activities in the western Kopet Dag region indicate an expansion of the exploration map into less examined areas. This trend could lead to the identification of new structures and the discovery of hydrocarbon resources.

In examining these discoveries, the importance of exploratory activities is not limited to the discovery of new resources; rather, there is also a need for proper assessment and design for the development of these resources. For instance, the discovery of the Takht field with approximately 7,500 billion cubic feet of in-place gas requires precise evaluation and development design to be converted into actual production.

Ultimately, exploratory activities in Iran demonstrate that despite existing challenges and uncertainties, hope for the discovery of new reserves remains alive, and these efforts could lead to a bright future for the country's oil and gas industry.
