Saeed Tavakoli today (Monday, October 20) at the commemoration ceremony of Safety and Firefighting Day, while appreciating the efforts of rescuers and operational staff, spoke about the vital role of crisis management in maintaining the energy stability of the country during the recent war.
Crisis Management and Maintaining the Stability of the Gas Network
Tavakoli, referring to the incidents of June 13, 2025, and the 12-day war, stated that the main concern was to prevent secondary incidents for the people. Crisis management meetings were formed from the very first seconds, and all actions outlined by operational and provincial companies were quickly implemented.
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company continued: The results of the war turned into opportunities for improvement, and the weaknesses that were identified were completely resolved before the start of the 40-day war. The extensive attacks on March 18 and the targeting of refineries and gas phases occurred in less than 3 minutes, but thanks to prior preparedness and the dedication of colleagues, the network remained stable.
Challenges Ahead and Lost Capacities
Tavakoli, referring to the difficulties ahead, described this year as "exceptional and very hard" and warned that due to recent incidents, 230 million cubic meters of gas production capacity were lost, and restoring 100 million cubic meters of it was done under very difficult conditions. The provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran, and Khorasan are prioritized due to the disruption of routes and gas tension, and managing consumption alone is not sufficient to overcome this crisis in these three provinces.
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company emphasized that actions such as identifying illegal branches, combating gas theft, and restricting non-priority consumers should be pursued vigorously. Tavakoli also referred to the supervisory role of safety, health, and environmental (HSE) units and stated that safety officials should not hinder operations but must ensure precise execution.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of reducing consumption in the provinces of Tehran, Alborz, and Semnan, stating: This reduction has a direct impact on the stability of the network in the three critical provinces of the north and east. Success must be repeatable and reliable, and the development of the gas industry must be achieved alongside the protection of the environment.
