The National Petrochemical Company, emphasizing the priority of protecting the lives of employees and safeguarding facilities, has focused on strengthening process safety management in the petrochemical industry. Davood Emadi, the HSE manager of the company, has highlighted the importance of controlling existing risks in this industry, including explosions and the release of hydrocarbon materials.
Safety Measures and Resilience
Emadi stated that controlling the inventory levels of tanks and high-risk processes is part of the actions taken to prevent similar incidents. He also referred to key lessons learned from past incidents, especially during the war, and emphasized that preparedness for combined and simultaneous scenarios is of special importance.
Investment in Equipment and Modern Technologies
The HSE manager of the National Petrochemical Company discussed the necessity of investing in the modernization of equipment and the use of modern technologies to optimize accident prevention processes, stating: "Strengthening this area and holding annual process safety management conferences are among the actions being taken in this regard." He also mentioned the preparation of documents on lessons learned from incidents and the compilation of a comprehensive root cause analysis document for the past 15 years in the petrochemical industry.
Emadi emphasized: "Given the rapid advancement of technology, the modernization of equipment and optimization of processes are areas that require investment." He also pointed out the importance of self-sufficiency in HSE equipment, reminding that projects related to smart detection and fire extinguishing systems are underway.
Safety Culture and Training
The HSE manager of the National Petrochemical Company identified the weakness in safety culture among contractors as one of the existing challenges. Additionally, contractor agreements include appendices of HSE requirements to ensure that contractors comply with these requirements.
Finally, Emadi referred to the operational readiness of firefighting forces and described the holding of operational drills as an opportunity to assess the preparedness of firefighting teams in the face of potential incidents. These actions are carried out in line with process safety management and the reduction of casualties in the petrochemical industry.
