Pezhman Omid-Moghaddami announced on the sidelines of the Second National Conference on Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence that activities related to the establishment of data governance in the oil industry began about a year ago and that the training phases for data observers are nearing completion. In this process, about 150 data observers have been appointed, and their official activities will commence after the relevant stages are completed.
Second Phase of Data Governance Establishment
Omid-Moghaddami stated that the oil industry is gradually entering the second phase of data governance establishment. In this phase, the creation and development of a data governance platform is on the agenda, and he hopes that, if conditions permit, this platform will be unveiled by the end of the year or at the latest in Farvardin and Ordibehesht of next year.
The Importance of Data and Artificial Intelligence in the Oil Industry
The Director General of Information Technology Development, Security, and Smartization of the Ministry of Oil emphasized that the unveiling of the data governance platform could be an important achievement for the oil industry, stating that this new platform will provide a more systematic use of data in management and decision-making processes.
Omid-Moghaddami also referred to projects within the Ministry of Oil's subsidiaries, saying: "In the petrochemical industry, the Shahab project is being pursued, and in the gas sector, a national project is also underway." He emphasized that both projects have data-centric capabilities and can be examined from the perspective of data governance.
He considered artificial intelligence as one of the important capacities for creating added value in the oil industry and stated that effective utilization of this technology will not be possible without attention to data governance and appropriate infrastructure. Omid-Moghaddami stressed that investment in this area could lead to tangible and economic results, including increased production, reduced costs, and the creation of new revenue sources.
In conclusion, Omid-Moghaddami emphasized the necessity of providing the required infrastructure and mentioned that the National Iranian Oil Company has also approved a resolution for purchasing graphics processing units. The ultimate goal is for technology to transform from a supporting tool to an effective factor in increasing efficiency and value creation in the oil industry.
