Peyman Falsafi, the representative of Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, during a visit to the PlastShow exhibition, emphasized the necessity of moving from raw material sales towards the production of final products and added value in the plastic and polymer industry.
Development of Downstream Industries and Provision of Suitable Goods
Falsafi, referring to the high capacities of the country's plastic and polymer industry, stated: "Moving from raw material sales to the production of final products creates significant added value, and ultimately, the people and the economy of the country will benefit from this process." He continued: "With the development of final product production, it becomes possible to provide the goods needed by the people at a more reasonable cost, and with proper marketing, the export capacity of this sector can also be increased."

Challenges and Solutions in the Plastic Industry
The representative of Tehran further pointed to the challenges in the plastic industry and identified the sustainable supply of raw materials as one of these challenges. Regarding the distribution of raw materials, he said: "In the commodity exchange, in some cases, rent-seeking occurs, and some producers receive raw materials but do not utilize their actual production capacity and sell part of the raw materials in the free market."
Falsafi emphasized: "To prevent such a trend, serious oversight on the implementation of laws is essential. There are various laws to organize this area that must be properly implemented, and at the same time, support for genuine producers should also be prioritized." He also stressed the necessity of protecting the production chain and stated: "Producers who do not adhere to the established frameworks in the production chain and exploit the existing conditions should not be able to divert raw materials or products from the main path and disrupt the access of final producers to raw materials."
Peyman Falsafi concluded by referring to the holding of the PlastShow exhibition centered around the private sector and specialized associations, stating: "The holding of this exhibition shows that the private sector and specialized associations can play an effective role in the exhibition field, and this capacity should be strengthened." He emphasized the importance of the private sector's presence in organizing exhibitions and added: "Exhibitions should be managed by the private sector as much as possible, and the government should play a supportive and facilitating role, rather than seeing itself as a competitor to the private sector."
Falsafi asserted: "Wherever competition arises between the government and the private sector, the way of interaction between these two sectors should be reconsidered. The government and governmental agencies should change their approach and instead of competing, facilitate the presence and greater activity of the private sector." He noted: "The more the environment for the presence of the private sector and specialized associations is provided, the better the capacities of the industry will be identified, and these capacities can be directed towards the development of production, completing the value chain, and expanding domestic and export markets."
