Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, Deputy for Electricity and Energy at the Ministry of Energy, announced the Ministry's goal to increase electricity imports while discussing new plans for electricity supply this summer. Given the existing imbalance in electricity production and consumption, domestic electricity supply has been prioritized. Currently, about 500 megawatts of electricity is imported from Turkmenistan and Armenia, and between 150 to 160 megawatts is exported to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Electricity Imports from Turkey and Azerbaijan

Rajabi Mashhadi also referred to the planning for the winter season and stated: "Importing electricity through Turkey and Azerbaijan is on the agenda." Necessary coordination has been made with petrochemical companies to purchase the imported electricity. Additionally, with a resolution to be received from the Cabinet, this electricity will be transferred from the entry points of the country to the consumption locations of industries without incurring transit costs.

Meeting the Needs of Petrochemical Industries

The Deputy for Electricity and Energy at the Ministry of Energy further emphasized: "With this action, we can compensate for part of the fuel shortage in thermal power plants." If petrochemical companies succeed in purchasing electricity from Turkey, the import volume will reach about 1000 megawatts. This amount of imports will certainly meet the needs of petrochemical industries and significantly improve the energy supply situation in the country.

Thus, importing electricity from Turkey and Azerbaijan not only helps in energy supply but can also pave the way for further cooperation with neighboring countries and strengthen trade relations. The Ministry of Energy, considering past experiences and the current needs of the country, is striving to reduce the imbalance between electricity production and consumption by adopting appropriate measures, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the country's energy sector.
