Hamid Bord, the head of the Ministry of Oil of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of Energy of Qatar, today (Monday, October 19) met in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to discuss energy cooperation between the two countries.
Discussion Topics
This meeting was held to strengthen bilateral relations and energy cooperation between Iran and Qatar. The two countries, considering their common needs and high capacities in energy production and export, have explored ways to collaborate in this area.
Shared Field Capacities
Iran and Qatar have shared gas fields, one of the most important being the South Pars gas field. This field, located in the Persian Gulf, is considered the largest gas field in the world, with a daily production capacity of about 700 million cubic meters. Additionally, the daily extraction capacity of gas from this field for Iran and Qatar jointly exceeds 500 million cubic meters.
Given these potential capacities, cooperation in various areas, including the development of shared fields and increasing gas production, has become one of the main objectives of the discussions. Bord and Al-Kaabi emphasized the importance of creating new agreements and enhancing the level of cooperation.
Results and Implications of Cooperation
This meeting can be seen as an important step towards strengthening economic and political relations between the two countries. Analysts believe that closer cooperation in the energy sector could lead to increased energy security in the region and improve the economic situation of both countries.
Moreover, such collaborations could help expand energy markets and increase competition at the global level. Given the energy crises that have arisen in recent years, bilateral and multilateral cooperation in this area is of special importance.
At the end of this meeting, both sides emphasized the continuation of discussions and the pursuit of previous agreements, expressing hope that these collaborations would soon lead to tangible results.
