LNG Canada has signed a contract worth over $224 million to advance the Coastal GasLink pipeline. This contract is aimed at progressing the second phase of this key project and significantly increasing the capacity for natural gas transportation. This decision follows the final investment decision (FID) for the expansion of the British Columbia export terminal.
Increased Natural Gas Transportation Capacity
The Coastal GasLink project, which starts from the northern gas fields of British Columbia, is specifically designed to meet the needs of international natural gas markets. Upon completion of this phase, the capacity for natural gas transportation from this pipeline will reach approximately 5 billion cubic meters per day, nearly doubling its previous capacity. This increase in capacity could help meet the rising demand in Asian and American markets.

Economic and Environmental Benefits
This project not only helps increase natural gas transportation capacity but will also create job opportunities and strengthen the local economy. It is estimated that this project will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during the construction and operational phases. Additionally, since natural gas is recognized as a cleaner fuel compared to coal, the use of this pipeline could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Overall, the Coastal GasLink project is considered a critical infrastructure for natural gas exports and a significant step towards ensuring sustainable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuel resources. Given the investments made and the commitment to sustainable development, this project could serve as a successful model for other similar projects globally.
