A limited oil-gas leak in the Abadan-Ahvaz pipeline occurred on the morning of October 7, 2023. This incident was reported to be caused by the creation of an illegal branch by oil thieves. Mehrdad Haghighian, the manager of the Oil Pipeline and Telecommunications Company in Khuzestan, announced that the leak was stopped quickly through the identification by pressure and flow monitoring systems.

Leak Containment and Pipeline Safety Operations

After the leak was identified, the transfer operations were immediately halted, and operational and security teams were dispatched to the incident site. Haghighian noted that with the immediate efforts of the staff, the safety operations, leak containment, pipeline repair, and site cleanup were completed in the shortest possible time. Currently, the Abadan-Ahvaz pipeline is back in operation.

Preventive Measures Against Thefts

The manager of the Oil Pipeline and Telecommunications Company in Khuzestan emphasized that necessary protective measures are being pursued in collaboration with judicial and law enforcement authorities to prevent the recurrence of such thefts. The pipelines in Khuzestan play a key role in meeting the refinery and industrial needs of the country as vital energy transmission arteries.

Since the Abadan-Ahvaz pipeline is considered one of the main oil and gas transmission lines in the country, the occurrence of such leaks can have serious consequences for the country's energy supply. Therefore, attention to the security and protection of these infrastructures is essential.

Attention to monitoring systems and the use of modern technologies in this field can help reduce the risks associated with leaks and thefts. This also requires close cooperation between government and private entities to ensure the security and efficiency of the pipelines.
